DO you really know the difference between factory art and fine art????

I have seen for the last few days more factory art than I want to see for a long while!!! I attended the Benton Art festival and was place beside a nice gentleman who prints his own photos on canvas and was able to sell at a ridiculous low price. This made me uncomfortable to say the least.. Then today while shopping with my sister at Big lots after we spent the day delivering our artwork to locations, again seen Hugh enormous size pieces of factory artwork on canvas and framed, selling at a bottom dollar price. Grrrrrr.

It made me wonder if everyone knows the difference in taking a few moments to print an image compared to a person creating a piece of art which may take days or even weeks. I understand that everyone has a right to create in their own fashion, but come on now !!. Printing a photo on canvas is not on the same playing field as taking an idea and creating a composition and then painting with a medium on a support. (canvas or panels or boards)!

Art is not printing a pretty picture and then calling it art! Really??? NOT!!!!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I am sharing mine!!!

Abstract

I have been working on a different kind of painting today than what I usually do which has really brought out the emotions inside me. I know not everyone will get it because it is more abstract but the ones who do will hopefully feel something too! I hope to be finished before the week is out!

Abstract can mean anything but it should have some kind of form to it! A color or movement or a subject matter.

Thank you for visiting our site!

Applying Texture

Have you ever wondered how those artist paint these amazing work with all the texture and brush strokes?

I am going to show you different methods of applying texture and illustrate with images of different paintings created by Judy.

1. In this Cafe painting, Judy used white gesso and a sponge to give the illusion of stucco. After drying she then painted the wall.

2. Textured painting requires lots of paint. Using a sponge and heavy bodied acrylic paint she applied thick amounts of paint to her canvas, in this bamboo painting, Waiting until it dried, she then painted her subject with colors. I have a closeup of the painting to show the texture.

3. Judy applied texture using the palette knives and heavy body acrylic paint. In this painting of a ship you can see the strokes and texture. Notice the movement of the water with these strokes.

4. Another way to apply texture was the mixed media method. Judy used cut pieces of styrofoam and placed them by forming a stone rock walkway.

She glued the styrofoam using acrylic paint, when the styrofoam dried on the canvas she then applied her color.

All of these methods are great ways to add texture. The sky is the limit, crumbled newspapers to crinkle foil, you can let your imagination run wild with ideas for creating texture. I have seen paintings when I knew it had to be a school eraser or soda lids, let your mind entertain all these methods and try a few for yourself. Enjoy .

We have worked together creating murals several times and instructed lessons but have never worked our compositions around each other before.

We are discussing future plans on joint efforts again soon!

Are we ready for this?

Judy and I were requested to gift a friend one of our paintings. This dear friend has given us precious gifts that she has created herself using her sewing machine. After telling me she doesn't have any paintings from Judy or me, we decided to give her one a piece for her birthday! Her last name is Robins so we are teaming up to paint a Robin and a robin's nest. ( I know this sound a little cheesy)... I will be painting a robin and Judy is in charge of the robin's nest. We will team them together for her gift. Our friend told me she has three children so Judy will place three eggs in the nest. Did you know that robin's eggs are turquoise in color? Yes they are the prettiest blue! I will post the paintings when we finish. I have started the robin and Judy has begin her research on the nests. Together they will make the perfect gift for our friend Mrs. Robins. Stop back by soon to see the paintings.
